2008-12-30 iPoker has just announced that they will no longer support Carlos Poker and NoiQ Poker as of January 24 2009. iPoker is the third largest poker network on the internet and it is so far unclear what is causing this separation. NoiQ Poker has though, sent a statement to their players saying there has been disagreement between them and the network.

2008-12-28 After new regulations in Italy regarding play of online poker, citizens have been engaged in a play money software run by Playtech. The trial period is now over and has now graduated to a real money Playtech Italian poker network.

2008-12-26 CardPlayer.com has announced John Phan from California, as poker player of the year for 2008. He got a total of 6,704 points in the POY ranking that started with three WPT World Poker Open places in January. John’s totals for 2008 included eight final tables and two WSOP gold beacelets among other things, and his total POY winnings are now over $5.3 million.

2008-12-23 Last weekend Phil Hellmuth was wrongfully winning a pot of almost $6000 while playing at Ultimate Bet. UB is now blaming it on an error in their software. This makes the second incident with Ultimate Bet, after the famous scandal in May when they admitted finally that former employees hacked into the accounts of a few players to see their hole cards.

2008-12-22 Recently we have seen quite a few professional athletes taking on the game of poker and it seems like the poker rooms are eager to sponsor them. Michael Phelps at Doyles Room and Randy Couture at Full Tilt Poker is only two of them. Many people think that poker should not be considered an actual sport though, while Boris Becker claims tennis and poker has many similarities.

2008-12-21 PokerStars has now aimed for a new record in the online poker community. On December 28 they are hosting the largest online tournament ever with a cap of 35,000 players. Poker Stars has even notifed the Guinness Book of World Records about the event.

2008-12-16 Poker Pro William Gustafik’s career hardly started before he was found stabbed to death in his Las Vegas home. His wife Jill Rockcastle has now recently been sentenced to ten years in prison after her story didn’t hold up in court. Gustafik had, among other things, a 10th place in a World Poker Tour event and also cashed at the WSOP Main Event in 2006.

2008-12-15 EPT Prague chipleader is no other than a known hustler in Sweden that has scammed people out of more than $2.5 Million. Swedish player Fredrik Nygard has earlier gone to the newspaper with his story and even warned people about himself.

2008-12-12 The government of Norway has just passed a proposal that might lead to a ban of online poker and other gambling activity within Norway. The new laws will probably not be enforced until mid 2009 and advisors believe the bill will end up in the European Court of Justice before it can be finalized.

2008-12-05 WSOP winner Peter Eastgate will have to tax $6.6 million of his $9.1 million cash prize. This is due to the tax laws in Denmark where any winnings over $4 million are taxed at the high rate of 75%. Eastgate failed to establish residency in England but might be able to register in Monaco to get away from the high taxes.
