One of the most intriguing young poker players to come of age in the past year + is 22-year-old New Jersey native, Tom “durrr” Dwan, although he’s been playing in Europe since he was 17 (he placed 12th at the WSOPEurope). His name stays in the headlines of online poker news stories, usually reporting that the popular poker personality is making even more money. While money may play a big role in his career, he’s more than a successful poker player—he’s a record breaker.
His risk-nothing attitude has won him many hands and his bankroll has scored many pots, but perhaps the most meaningful result of his daring skill is the poker history he’s writing as he breaks record after record. Dwan was right in the middle of the action the night that saw the online record for biggest pot ever broken multiple times within a few hours. Dwan was first up for the night to break the record, but the record was to be broken again and again, ultimately by Phil Ivey, who left the record standing at $800,000.
But Dwan wasn’t going to walk away with nothing. He snagged the title of “biggest online loser ever,” losing a $723,000 pot to Di “Urindanger” Dang, which is now the all time biggest online pot ever won, or lost if you want to look at it from Dwan’s POV, who ranks #110 for Player of the Year.
This week Dwan broke another record. So far to date, Dwan has won $5.37 million, as calculated by MarketPulse, in online No Limit Hold ‘em poker, alone. There is a good chance, he will close out the year as the biggest NHLE winner ever, out banking Phil Ivey with a $2.5 million 2008 and Phil Galfond at $2.7 million.
