Perhaps one of the most revolutionary poker tours will be introduced by PokerStars in January 2009, the Russian Poker Tour (RPT). After Ivan Demidov placed 2nd under Peter Eastgate in the 2008 WSOP Main Event, Russian poker is the hot topic; attraction to this tournament won’t be lacking. The inaugural RPT is set to kick off on January 25, 2009 in St. Petersburg with a $5000 buy-in, supplying each player with 15,000 starting chips. The venue will be the Nevskiy pr, Concert Hall Premier and will go through the 1st of February. After that, the tour will move to Moscow, Russia, the capital city. The buy-in will be upped to $10,000 and will take place on February 22, 2009 and run through February 28. Of course, you can win satellite seats to both events online at PokerStars.com for as little as $2.22 or as few as 111 FPPs, through December 30, 2008.
Those planning to visit Russia as a player or a spectator, who are not originally from Russia, should check the visa specifications before buying a plane ticket. Russia does not prohibit citizens of all countries to enter the country of Russia. Unfortunately, though, players from the United States are required to follow special visa guidelines. US poker players, and those from other countries as well, should check with the Russian Sport Poker Federation and the Poker Style Group to get information on visa conditions.
Popular Russian poker players, Ivan Demidov and Alex Kravchenko, are expected to be attending the RPT, both of whom are WSOP final table finishers. This tournament should make for a good game with some great competition. The RPT comes on the heels of the EPT stop in Prague which took place in early December 2008 but will give Russian poker players plenty of time to prepare for the opening of the RPT. PokerStars, the country of Russia, and poker players from Russia are very proud of this tour, which is expected to generate a large following.
