EPT Chipleader Fredrik Nygard scammed people out of 2,5 million

The chipleader in the EPT Prague event is no other than a well known hustler in Sweden.

Back in March 2008 Fredrik Nygard went to the Swedish newspaper Expressen with the story about his lifestyle to warn other people about himself. “I have hustled or tried to hustle everyone I know or have ever met. Today I have only three or four friends left, those are the ones I never managed to hustle and scam out of any money”, Nygard told the newspaper.

Went to the newspaper to warn others

Nygard contacted the newspaper himself in order to get an article published about him in order to warn other people so that he would not be able to scam them. When he met up with the journalist from Expressen in Stockholm Sweden the 2nd of March 2008 he was homeless and has only a couple of Euros in his pocket.

How it all started

Fredrik grew up in a normal family in Finland and he discovered at an early age that he was a good liar. He used to borrow money from his parents in order to buy books for school as he would say, but in reality the money went towards supporting his gambling addiction. At the age of 16 he had already lost around $7000 gambling. “Whatever I told people they used to believe me”, says Nygard.

Scammed people out of $2.5 Million

According to Nygard he has scammed people out of approximately $2.5 Million throughout the years. Amongst the people who have gotten scammed there are a lot of well known poker professionals being mentioned.

“I don’t know how it could go this far. It just kept getting worse and worse and I totally lost all control”.

Chipleader in EPT Prague 2008

Just a few months after the article about his scamming lifestyle was released he is now the chipleader at the European Poker Tour event in Prague where he has the chance to win €174 000. It’s probably not too farfetched to believe that there are a lot of people who would like to have some money back from Nygard should he win the tournament.
