With Doyle Brunson, himself, as a mentor, the odds are in Michael Phelps’ favor. He’s been in Vegas training with Brunson, the master of poker. If all goes well, Phelps will probably end up on Team Brunson, the professional poker team of DoylesRoom.com.
The relationship between Brunson and Phelps is fairly new. While staying at the Palms Hotel and Casino with some friend, Phelps got to hang with Brunson. Brunson gave him copies of his Super System 1 and Super System 2 and Phelps got to drill Brunson with many questions regarding the sport of poker. Apparently Phelps isn’t just a swimmer and 8-time Olympic gold medalist. It seems as if he’s going for a couple WSOP bracelets too. Phelps told Brunson, “All I want to do in life is eat, swim, and play poker.”
A partnership between Phelps and Doyle’s Room would definitely be in the favor of both parties. Phelps, who has a large following all over the world, will be a great asset to the marketing department at DoylesRoom.com (unfortunately though, his US fans won’t be included in the target audience, as they are banned from the online poker room). Alternatively, Phelps will step right into a sponsorship without having to work his way up like other pros. Phelps has hooked up with quite a few endorsement partners since the Beijing Summer 2008 Olympics, so it’s quite possible a deal with DoylesRoom will be made.
Perhaps one of the best perks that has come out of his friendship with Brunson is Phelps’ new girlfriend, hottie Caroline Caz Pal. Phelps and Pal’s relationship has been the topic of many online gossip columns and poker blogs, recently, especially since he took her home to meet his family over Thanksgiving.
Brunson said of Phelps, “What a great feeling it must be to be 23 years old and on top of the world. I had dinner last night with [him]… What a nice kid!” If Doyle says he’s cool, then it must be so. Look for him to show up at the tables on DoylesRoom.com.
