Twenty-seven-year-old Vanessa Rousso has won her first tourney for 2010, the $1,000 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Ladies Event, in which she beat out 90 other players and won a nice $24,725 cash prize. What’s more intriguing is that about 1/3 of her competition had won their spots in the tournament via qualifiers on PokerStars after studying under Rousso on PokerStars in the High Heels Poker Academy.V
But the teacher can’t beat the student, and Rousso proved that, though it wasn’t an easy feat, according to the champion, herself. She commented on the win, “There were a couple of pros who played. J.J. Lui was in there, Annette Obrestad. There was a bunch of good players. Obviously you have to run well in any tournament you play in. But I didn’t make any mistakes that I know of, I played well and I’m happy with the way I played. Starting the year off with a victory is really cool.”
In addition, Rousso, who is part of Team PokerStars, also beat out such poker ladies as Maria Mayrinck, Katja Thater, Sandra Naujoks, and Veronica Dabul.
Last year, Rousso brought home a total of $1.35 million as a result of tournament wins; she is commonly referred to as “Lady Maverick” with a career total of more than $3.5 million.
After her most recent win in the Bahamas, she said, “Now that I’m at the point in my career where I have $3.5 million in earnings, if you count my results live and online, I think my results are beginning to speak for themselves. I’ve only been playing for four and a half years, and I just hope over the next six years or so, my results will continue to speak for themselves. Then, after a solid performance of ten years in professional poker, you can establish yourself.”
Now that’s confidence.
