Not only does Congressman Barney Frank support legalized and regulated online gambling and poker, but he also supports the legalization and regulation of marijuana for medical use. Hmmm… So after further research, it is learned that Frank is gay and has a “partner” whom he doesn’t live with, Jim Ready. So you may also not be aware, but now realize that Frank, 69, also supports gay marriage, though he doesn’t feel it necessary to betroth himself to his partner for reasons regarding health benefits. I wonder how he feels about government run health care.
Anyway, back in 2007, Frank was sitting on the front porch of Ready’s home when his partner’s home was raided by police. What was found inside the home was a cultivation setup of marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia, for which Ready was charged. While Frank denied any knowledge of the goings on inside of the house or any association with the activity, he did say that all he smoked was cigars. Just this month, Michigan, Frank’s home state, became the fifth state in the US to approve medical marijuana dispensaries.
While Ready admitted to civil possession, he only had to pay a fine for that charge, and the rest of the charges were dropped. According to Marijuana Law by Richard Glen Boire, in Michigan, cultivation of any number of plants is punishable by 0-4 years in jail plus a $2,000 fine, so Ready may or may not have gotten any strings pulled by his partner, Frank. Frank told police that he was disappointed and shocked at the time of the raid, as he didn’t know anything about the plants growing inside the house, nor would he have even known what they were if he had seen them.
So while Congressman Frank is an advocate for regulated online gambling in the US, he’s also an advocate for many other taboo topics like medicinal marijuana and gay and lesbian rights. Now we know, though, that he’s a little more human than the other stiffs in Congress who are just too scared to admit the truths about themselves. Frank is candid and real, which may or may not get that online gambling bill pushed through.
