On the heels of an updated PokerStars VIP rewards program (the Stellar Rewards) and breaking their own record for largest online tournament only, PokerStars has announced the inaugural 23 members of the online counterpart of Team PokerStars: Pro, Team PokerStars: Online. After two months of weeding through the 2,000 contenders, the best 23 online PokerStars players have been determined. The group consists of players from all over the globe with exactly 18 countries being represented. Also, the team consists of players from all games and stakes available at PokerStars, so that members of this diverse team will be seen all over the PokerStars schedule of tournaments and games at any given time.
PokerStars does plan on adding more players to the online team in 2010, in addition to updating the PokerStars lobby in order to make finding and following these players easier. It will be interesting to see if this honor will bring any of these players into the offline limelight or generate more buzz about them in the poker news. There’s bound to be at least one Tom Dwan in the mix. These players have frequently won big money online tournaments such as Steve “stevesbets” Jacob, who won the $25K buy-in 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and won $560K and Thomas “Boku87” Boekhoff, who successfully turned $5 into a $100K bankroll by playing online poker.
