PokerStars has taken in another poker pro, this time it’s 29-year-old Eugene Katchalov. Born in the Ukraine, but now residing in New York, Katchalov will make his first sponsored appearance at the Russian Poker Series Kiev this Saturday.
Katchalov recently won the $100K Super High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2011, winning $1.5 million and beating second place fellow PokerStars Pro, Daniel Negreanu in a final heads-up battle. In total, Katchalov has won $6.1 million in live career tourney earnings and holds a World Poker Tour title.
Joining the ranks of Negreanu and recently signed Viktor Blom, Katchalov says, “I feel very fortunate in having the opportunity to represent PokerStars. It is the largest and, in my opinion, the best-run poker site in the world, with a great team of pros. I look forward to continuing my great run in poker and helping PokerStars successfully expand and evolve within the ever-changing world of poker.”
Not only has he been successful in live tournaments, but he’s also done well online, which is hard for some poker pros to do. He took first place in the 2009 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker heads-up event, winning $140K. In addition, he’s taken in $500K+ in PokerStar tournaments under the name “MyRabbiFoo.”
Negreanu says of his competitor, friend, and now fellow PokerStars pro, “Eugene has always flown under the radar, but among his peers, his game is well respected and he is considered one of the best in the world, both in tournaments and cash games. I’m thrilled to see Eugene as part of the team. He’s a great guy and an excellent poker ambassador.”
I wonder if Negreanu is as thrilled to have Blom on the PokerStars roster, as he will be going heads-up against him for the second time this weekend after losing $150K to Blom last Sunday in the PokerStars SuperStars Showdown.
