PokerStars Breaks Its Own Record (Again)

Written by Stefan | Friday, October 9th, 2009

Last month, PokerStars completed its 8th annual World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) along with breaking its own record in the Guinness Book of World Records once again. The reigning record holder was PokerStars, and now they’re still the title holder after breaking their own record with a confirmed and official 307,016 players online playing in real money ring games, real money tourneys, and free poker simultaneously on 42,814 virtual poker tables during the WCOOP, beating their old record by more than 100,000 players.

While PokerStars and its main competitor, Full Tilt, battled it out over the summer to see who could attract the most players on their site at once with a couple massive tournaments, Full Tilt Poker just couldn’t seem to hold a candle to PokerStars.com, who has always held this title (since it was first established as an official record back in 2008). The summer tourneys attracted approximately 50,000 at Full Tilt and 65,000 players at PokerStars, putting the total amount of players online at once at almost 200,000 at PokerStars.

The recent record numbers are due in part to the attendance of the WCOOP, but PokerStars is deserving of the title, nonetheless. Event after event of the series just kept the players coming in. For instance, Event #6, the $109 NL Texas Hold ‘em tourney had a 15,675-player field, while Event #9 $215 NL Hold ‘em registered 11,000+ players. In the end after it was all said and done with, PokerStars had beaten their own record again, thus making it even harder for any other site to ever come close to the mark, not anytime soon anyway. Full Tilt will have to find something else to excel at when it comes to competing with PokerStars because beating PokerStars’ record is just seemingly a wasted effort at this point.

Right now you can get $600 for free when you sign up at PokerStars, simply use the PokerStars marketing code PSP11903 during the signup process to claim your $600.
