Recently, reports have surfaced that the two biggest online poker rooms in the business of online poker have updated their software. Both of these poker rooms have their own software applications unique to their sites, which means they get updated more regularly and are one-of-a-kind. While regular software updates are common within both applications, this update is atypical in that they have now disabled the use of third party software, such as the popular PokerTracker and PlayerGPS.com applications, with their online poker software. The only solution for these third parties is to update their applications in order to be compatible with the new systems.
The main reason for Full Tilt’s most recent update was to correct issues that Mac users were having with the program such as intolerable wait time when logging on, hole cards being dealt face down (to the player), and lost connections with servers. The latter two issues were actually resulting in the Mac poker players losing money they’d put in the pot.
Over at PokerStars, was also experience lagging action problems, an issue with Frequent Player Points, and break synchronizations within multi-table tourneys. Now, these issues have since been resolved.
The problem, however, is that in working out these kinks, some third party applications have been affected. Both PlayerGPS and PokerTracker are working hard to get their software in sync with the poker sites’ updates. These third party software systems allow players to track many components of their games and tournaments, and to some, are a viable part of their online gaming strategy. They allow players to study their hand histories and gaming patterns in explicit detail, so you can see how important it is to keep these systems compatible with the online poker room applications. This isn’t the first time this has happened, though, and these software companies have in fact had to update their programs numerous times to keep the in sync and compatible.
