For those fans of the late night poker show, Poker After Dark, which airs on NBC, it has been announced that the sixth season, which finished filming back in October 2009, will soon air. The series, which is filmed at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, features well-known celebrity poker pros playing high-stakes poker and makes for some very entertaining television late at night, when there is otherwise not much else on TV.
In addition to series regulars, there will be 13 new players who will make their Poker After Dark debut. Some of the episodes this season will showcase some first-time winners, some dramatic matches, hilarious commentary, huge swings, and more. Season 6 will encompass 13 new episodes, seven of those presented in the traditional 6-handed freezeout fashion where winner takes all, and six cash game episodes. The freezeouts will feature themes previously unused in the show, which promise to be interesting with some unusual matchups. The cash game episodes will portray the three cash games with varying minimum buy-ins, each of which will air over two-weeks.
While the exact air dates have yet to be announced, we do know some of the matchups and game details that viewers can look forward to. There will be a “Commentators” episode that will feature Gabe Kaplan, Howard Lederer, Joe Sebok, Ali Nejad, Kara Scott, and Mark Gregorich. Additionally, a “Nicknames” episode will matchup Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Phil “The Poker Brat” Hellmuth, Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, Annette “The Huntress” Obrestad, Erick “E-Dog” Lindgren, and Phil “The Unabomber” Laak. With Obrestad now old enough to play legally in the US, he’s sure to reel in some viewers. Other themed episodes will include “My Favorite Pro,” “He Said, She Said,” “Lonesome Shark,” “Mixed Martial Arts,” and “Charity in Mind.”
One cash game with a $50K minimum buy-in will include Todd Brunson, Mike Matusow, Brandon Adams, Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth, and Antonio Esfandiari. This one will be entertaining! $100K and $150K cash games will also be aired.
Commentators will include Ali Nejad and Leeann Tweedan.
