Since the beginning of the year, CardRunner pro, Cole South, has been the new buzz name in the nosebleed games at Full Tilt Poker. He’s been dominating games across the gauntlet from heads up to shorthanded 6-max games and since January 1st, 2010, he’s raked in more than $2.7 million in profit. Many of the pots taken from some of the best names in high-stakes online poker.
Only days ago, he took $558K to his bank wad, most of which came from Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Tom “durrrr” Dwan. In another session he lost $250K to Patrik Antonius and Dwan in $300/$600 Pot Limit Omaha, but just as quickly he came back. At a heads up game against Dwan, South took more than $300K in only less than 1,000 hands. He lost another $250K to Antonius, only to go up against Ziigmund and some others in a six-max Pot Limit Omaha round to bring back $425K in winnings. Antonius’ profits have just about allowed him to break even for the year.
But South has also been known to frequent the smaller stake games, as well, only to experience an intense success rate there as well. If you see him sit down, run, but know that variance will also soon be knocking at his door.
What all this means is that nothing has changed over at the high-stakes tables at Full Tilt. Online poker remains and the same pros are still sitting at home taking pots worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from each other and then turning around and giving it back. Not that we would ever want this to stop. It’s part of the phenomenon of online poker, and it’s more surreal to the average player. These guys just love playing poker so much that’s it’s not enough for them to take all the money and walk away rich and happy. All they really want to do is play more poker. And once in a while, someone new shows up. This time it’s Cole South.
