GoDaddy.com, leading Internet hosting provider and biggest domain registry in the world, returns as sponsor of this highly acclaimed and world famous event that is one of the most prestigious tournaments in poker. Founder of GoDaddy and CEO, Bob Parsons, states, “This sponsorship works for us, in part, because a good majority of poker players and fans are also Internet users. And of course, it was thrilling to watch some of the most dominant poker stars compete last year in this championship.”
Huck Seed, reigning champ will return this year, and Vanessa Rousso, last year finalist, along with other best of poker pros including Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu, 2009 WSOP champion Joe Cada, and many more names and faces poker fans have grown to love since poker has grown into a super sport over the past decade.
Seed, who is the only player to have placed in the money in all five years of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship is just as excited as the next guy. He says, “It takes a lot of skill and mental toughness to get through a field of such exceptional players, but I look forward to defending my title and trying to win it again.”
TV personality and model, Leeann Tweeden, will host the event and report from the sidelines, along with Craig Hummer and Ali Nejad, who will serve as commentators for the broadcast when it airs in the spring on Sundays for six weeks.
The unique format of this event makes it even more special, as the 64 legendary players will compete in a series of heads-up matches of No-Limit Texas Hold ‘em to determine the best of the best heads-up poker player in the entire world. The bracket-style, single-elimination structure is uniquely modeled after the championship tournament of college basketball, with the exception that the finals include the best of three.
First place will take home $500K and second place, $250K. The first round players for the brackets will be randomly chosen at the event’s kick-off Draw Party to be held at Caesars Palace’s PURE Nightclub on March 4th. The competition will commence on March 5th at 12 noon and will continue through Sunday, March 7th when a 2 out of 3 championship match will turn up a winner. If you’re interested in attending, the rail will be open to spectators on a first-come, first-served basis.
