In high-stakes online gambling, it’s always the same story: What goes around comes around. The winnings and losses of online high-stakes poker players seem to be quite a hot topic at online poker blogs and poker news sites. In fact, it has been reported that Phil Ivey had lost at least $2 million in only the first six weeks of 2009. But in the world of online poker, it always seems to work itself out. As it has worked out for Ivey, who won $1.1 million in one session of online poker at Full Tilt just last week. There’s always a downside to these stories, though, as whenever someone wins, someone also loses. Most of Ivey’s profits, consequently, came right out of Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s chip stack. Ivey also, however, got some of his own money back from Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro, who had taken a great deal of Ivey’s losses earlier this year.
The two biggest pots of Ivey’s million-dollar day, however, did in fact come from Dwan. Ivey took one pot totaling more than $328K and another of more than $336K. The final hand threw Ivey another big pot of $173K+ when he hit a flush against Dwan. Perhaps this will be a foreshadowing of what is to come if and when Dwan and Ivey finally face off in Dwan’s Million Dollar Challenge. Currently, Dwan is taking on Patrik Antonious. They have more than 45,000 hands to complete before all is said and done. While Dwan is on top of the challenge now by about $140K, by the time it’s actually over, he will have probably taken some or all of the money he lost back from Ivey and given it to Antonius, who will in turn replenish Kelopuo’s bankroll. High-stakes online poker is a vicious cycle…
