NBC has just announced a new distinction in its current stable and strong poker line-up, now adding a new show called “Face the Ace.” This is done with a commitment in mind to offer the most entertaining poker shows on television to their viewers.
Face the Ace will allow participants the opportunity to battle against three diverse high ranked professional poker players for the chance of winning up to $1 million. The show will be hosted by Steve Schirripa, star of the commended HBO series “The Sopranos” and will be aired on national television.
Rumour has it that this will be an innovative show, like nothing we have seen on television. This show will be a winning combination of game show entertainment, the drama of a reality show together with the intense pressure of a real poker tournament with massive sums of cash at stake. It will certainly appeal to all poker fans, as well as regular American time viewers who enjoy contestant shows where they have to face hard and defining decisions in hopes of winning these life-changing money sums.
Anyone can enrol in the free qualifying tournaments that could lead to the opportunity of appearing on the show. This can be done online through FaceTheAce.com. All contestants must be at least 21 years of age and the complete regulations can be found online on Face the Ace.com
Tournaments are going on a 24/7 basis and the first bunch of winners who get through will be flown to Las Vegas for the recording. The taping will be for the seven one-hour shows currently planned to commence airing on Saturday, August 1. POKER PROductions, who also manages “Poker After Dark” for NBC will be the show producers.
This will be NBC’s first entry into prime time poker programming. This time –slot pattern will follow for the August 8 show and the remainder will be announced later on.
Eventually when participants are selected for the actual show, they will have to select between four smoked-glass doors. Behind these doors there will be four top professional poker players, also known as the “Aces.” The show contestant will the play that Ace in a heads-up no-limit Texas hold’em match.
If the contestant defeats the professional, they will have to choose if to leave with that money won or stay and risk it all. The latter would mean having to choose another door and battle the next Ace for a heftier sum of money.
This pattern will follow until the contestant loses against the other top-ranked pro, chooses to leave or until they defeat three Aces in a row. Finally, this would get them $1 million as total winning prize.
