After winning the 2011 Heads-Up Poker Championship earlier in the month, Erik Seidel became first on the list for all-time poker money earner, bumping Daniel Negreanu into second place. His total career wins total $14.6 million, just $400K ahead of Negreanu who has $14.2 million. In third place is Phil Ivey with $13.9 million.
Seidel said after his win, “I’m loving it right now. I kind of expect it [being top of the money list] will be a temporary thing, but I’m happy to be there now.”
He also said after winning, “It’s a great feeling to win this tournament. Any time you win, you don’t have that lingering ‘what did I do wrong?’ or ‘Maybe I should have done something different.’”
In the last two months, Seidel has moved up the all-time money list from 11th place to first after winning the $250K Super High Roller tourney at the Aussie Millions earlier this year in January and then winning another high roller event at the LA Poker Classic in February. It’s safe to say that this is his year.
Chris Moneymaker was the unfortunate opponent whom lost to Seidel at the 2011Heads-Up Poker Championship on March 6. After losing, Moneymaker said, “I tried everything. I tried to check-raise, I tried to bluff him, I tried to trap him. He’s just a true champion.”
Moneymaker, who is back in the headlines this year himself after taking 11th place in the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, won $300K for his second place win against Seidel. The tournament consisted of a total of 62 players and was broadcast on NBC.
