Online poker player, Thomas “Boku87” Boekhoff, is well-known in the online poker community for his stunts at PokerStars, once multi-tabling 51 games at once. Back in 2007, he proposed that he could turn $100 into $10,000 playing low-limit Sit n Gos in 15 days, playing nothing above $16 Sit n Gos. He posted the challenge in the forums and bet $20,000 that he could succeed in this task if bettors would give him 3-1 odds. No one believed he could do it. About $32,000 in bets against him were transferred into escrow with PokerStars, and Boekhoff transferred enough to cover his end. At the end of the two weeks, with no sleep and $10,042.98 in his PokerStars account, he had won the bet.
Now Boekhoff has given himself another challenge that’s even harder than the one described above. He’s given himself 12 months to turn $5 into $100,000. While this will further prove his abilities as a poker player, it will also require much management of his bankroll. The beginning will undoubtedly be harder, as he will only have $5 to work with.
Playing in tournaments on PokerStars, his first will be a $0.10-buy-in Sit n Go. He will also play $0.02/$0.04 cash fixed limit cash games at first. As he builds his bankroll, he will be able to buy into larger tournaments like $0.25 Sit n Gos and so on; thus, getting closer to his goal of $100,000. With any luck, this challenge will be even more thrilling to follow than Dwan’s Million Dollar Challenge, and it will be much shorter, as well. Boku87’s progress can be followed in his twice-weekly updated blog. He plans on playing about eight hours per day.
Boekhoff’s other accomplishments include finishing 14th in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final in 2008 for which he won $120,000.
