Absolute Poker has just a signed a sponsorship deal with 25-year-old poker superstar Matt “Plattsburgh” Vengrin. In the past, he has been affiliated with Full Tilt Poker, but this New Yorker is now an Absolute Poker guy. He says, “I am honored and humbled that I was chosen to help represent Absolute Poker. I believe in the brand and look forward to a long term relationship working side by side with the management team.”
Vengrin has won more than $1.5 million in live and online poker tournaments. He’s made two final tables at WSOP events, one being a 3rd place cash of almost $168,000 in the $3,000 No Limit Hold ‘em last year. He also finished 7th in 2007’s Aruba Poker Classic and many other six-figure wins including an online FTOPS win, also in 2007. This year at the 2009 WSOP, he’s cashed once so far in Event #40 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, placing 19th and winning more than $25,000.
Vengrin will be playing as “mattvvengrin” at Absolute Poker, which is part UltimateBet’s Cereus Network.
Vengrin is more than just a poker pro. He’s part owner and marketing genius behind the poker tracking site PlayerGPS.com. You can currently sign up with the site for free during their free trial submission period for a limited time and get email, SMS, and AIM alerts when your favorite poker pros show up at an online poker room. This is really a great idea, but rather than studying marketing, Vengrin is working towards a Psychology degree. When he completes his education, his plans are to pursue poker for two years, but if it doesn’t work out, he’ll have a college degree to fall back on. Seems like he’s a pretty smart guy.
Vengrin has a blog called “Recharging for Better Results,” but the last post was made back in December of 2008. Guess he’s been busy playing poker.
