Watch out for the star-studded Ante Up For Africa (AUFA) tournament to be held on July 2, 2009 to take place at the Rio in Vegas amidst all the WSOP action, just one day before the Main Event kicks off. Players and fans of the world’s richest sport will join together to support Darfur, Sudan in what is the largest celebrity tournament in Vegas. The event is open to public to registrants who would like to play for their favorite celebrities.
Some of the confirmed celebrity poker players that will be at the third annual event this year include Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Mekhi Phifer, Brad Garrett, Phil Hellmuth, and many, many more. Don Cheadle and Annie Duke are also scheduled to be in attendance.
Entry into the tournament is $5,000 but pays the winner a 6-figure prize. Many players just sign up to get close to some of the biggest professional poker players, who are celebrities in their own right, Hollywood stars, and all-star athletes. The event will undoubtedly be a big party as well as a poker tournament, and all for a great cause—the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.
Others who are expected to be there include Charles Barkley, Hank Azaria, Marlon Wayans, Jason Alexander, Montel Williams, Tia Carrere, Sarah Silverman, Herschel Walker, and Cedric the Entertainer. Other poker pros scheduled on the ticket are Andy Bloch, Tiffany Michelle, and Erik Seidel.
The tournament is set up in a fast paced structure that will result in a winner after only five hours it begins. In years previous, many of those who cashed volunteered to donate half of their winnings to the charity that raises public awareness about Darfur and provides money to the tragedy’s victims via the ENOUGH Project and Refugees International charitable organizations.
