The 2010 World Series of Poker schedule has been released with a few changes to note. First, it’s not just the former commissioner of the WSOP, Jeffrey Pollack, who has left the WSOP. His brainchild, the $50K HORSE tournament has also been removed from the line up and replaced with a $50K Player’s Championship.
This new tourney will award the first 2010 WSOP bracelet and will last four days and feature a mix of poker variations. Poker games that will be featured include No-Limit Hold ‘em, Limit Hold ‘em, Omaha Hi/Lo Split 8 or better, Seven-Card Razz, Seven-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo Split 8 or better, Pot-Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Draw Lowball. The final table of this grand event will feature No-Limit Hold ‘em. This tournament will be aired on ESPN.
The initial $50K HORSE tournament also featured a No-Limit Hold ‘em final table and the late David “Chip” Reese was the champion. The following three years of the $50K HORSE events rotated all five of the games at the final table, making it the most prestigious WSOP event in the history of the sport. In 2007, Freddy Deeb won the tourney and in
2008, Scotty Nguyen was the champion. This year, David Bach took the bracelet.
The previously awarded Chip Reese trophy that would have gone to the $50K HORSE winner will now be awarded to the Player’s Championship champion.
In addition to this new tournament, the 2010 schedule will also include a $25K 6-Handed No-Limit event and a $10K HORSE World Championship event, rounding out the 57-event schedule.
The 2010 WSOP will commence on May 28th with the first event being the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold ‘em and the Player’s Championship. The Main Event will take place on July 5th and conclude in November for the third year in a row. No date has been finalized for the Final Table.
