Microgaming has been well known through the world for their stable, gigantic online gambling software setup and designers. Unfortunately they are now experiencing a hard business patch due to the seize of the 141 gambling domains by the state of Kentucky that had been associated with the company. Even after an appeal and overturn action by the iMEGA, the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association things progressed but at least two of their licensees have now been dissolved.
These 2 licensees are Eurolinx and BetonBet Poker which are two online poker sites that have been carrying the Microgaming products. When these were dissolved, a further 30 Microgaming online poker skins were also released. The online poker community was surprised by these sudden changes as no one noticed that Microgaming was going through a hard time.
PokerScout.com’s Dan Stewart commented about the financial impact for Microgaming and that the result is still unknown but that ‘’the Microgaming Network still holds a healthy amount of traffic and we don’t know how much business the individual licensees are doing.”
Nevertheless, Microgaming might have to undergo a dramatic restructuring and cost cutting process with the goal to become more profitable in this tough economy. The current financial and business situation has led to the whole online poker industry into a loss in revenue during this worldwide recession.
Less business risks and fewer investments are being made with people being careful with their money; less gambling and spending in general also followed. The one hope lies in the United States to make severe changes and hopefully legalize online gambling as this would create a turnover to the better in the industry as a whole.
