At the NBC ‘Face the Ace’, we will be seeing amateurs going heads up against real poker professionals, such as Phil Ivey himself. This is the lifetime chance for poker lovers and amateurs to play up against some of the world renowned poker players, thanks to NBC.
This will be game show with a poker-theme and will feature an array of Full Tilt pros. Other pros among the 15 who will be participating are Mike Matusow, Patrik Antonius, Andy Bloch, Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Huck Seed, Erik Seidel, Gavin Smith and Erick Lindgren. The pro set-up is pretty incredible; all the above combined have accumulated an impressive 41 World Series of Poker bracelets, 11 World Poker Tour titles and well over $100 million in live tournament earnings.
The show will commence on the 1st of Aug and the 15 professionals will be rotating through the show’s seven-episode schedule as planned. The show’s host will be Steve Schirripa from “The Sopranos” and Ali Nejad and Megan Abrigo from “Deal or No Deal.” Shirripa commented; “Most people don’t get to compete against their favorite athletes in sports like football or basketball. This show gives contestants an incomparable opportunity to test their skills against some of the best poker players in the world. The same people they’ve read about or have watched on TV are the ones they have to defeat for chance at winning life-changing money.”
All the contestants have been qualifying through the many online freerolls and now stand the opportunity to win the main pool prize of $1 million. The way the game works is that these contestants have to select a pro from behind the four smoked-glass doors. After that, they will proceed to play a heads-up no-limit hold’em game for the $40,000 prize.
In case of a win, the contestant has to decide if to keep the money won or if to challenge the next pro for a higher $200,000 prize. The contestant can choose to walk away after any win, and in case of losing, the contestants will have to go home with nothing. The same setup applies and then, in case of a third win, the contestant would be taking home the grand $1 million prize.
On the other hand, if a pro wins he gets a credit of $10,000 to be sent to a charity of their individual choice.
