Joe Hachem did not start his career in poker until the year 2000 but since that time Joe has become a well known poker player and done quite well for himself. Joe was born in Lebanon and in the early 1970s his family moved to Australia. It was in Australia that Joe would meet his now wife, Jeanie, at the tender age of fifteen.
During his teenage years, Joe began playing a Manila version of poker for fun. It was not until the mid 90s that Joe became interested in Texas hold’em. After watching the movie Rounders, like many during the time, Joe learned to play the game and tried his luck at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
Joe’s profession at the time was as a chiropractor but he eventually developed a medical condition that affected the blood vessels in his hands. This of course made it difficult to help his patients so he decided to try poker as a career.
In 2000, Joe began playing in live tournaments at the Crown and began to cash out on a consistent basis. In 2005, Joe decided to head to the World Series of Poker which would be the decision of a lifetime. In the beginning of the series, Joe finished in 10th place at the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event cashing out for just over $25,000. Next up, Joe would try his hand at the Main Event.
The field of players at the 2005 WSOP Main Event was just over 5,000.Joe would play his best and beat the field taking home his biggest pay day to date of $7.5 million in prize money. Since that time, Joe has proved he is worthy of poker greatness by playing and winning or placing well in large tournaments against some of the best in the business.
In 2006, Joe finished second in the $2,500 short handed no limit hold’em event to Dutch Boyd and fourth in the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em Tournament of the WSOP. During the main event, Joe finished in 238th place with a $42,882 cash out. Before 2006 would end, Joe would win the Bellagio Casino’s Five Diamonds Poker Classic World Poker Tour event for $2,207,575, making it his first WPT title win.
Joe Hachem is one of only five players to have won the World Series of Poker Main Event and a World Poker Title. Joe won the World Series of Poker Champions II on NBC’s Poker After Dark and has competed in many WSOP circuit events.
As of now, Joe Hachem has earned over $10 million in live tournament winnings, which places him in 3rd on the all time money list. He is behind Jamie Gold in first and Daniel Negreanu in second. When Joe is not adding dollars to his tournament winnings, he can be found spending time with his wife and four kids or playing online as part of Team PokerStars.
