Andre Akkari was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and was not introduced to the game of poker until later on in life. After discovering his skill at the game of poker, Andre has now become an active representative for the Latin American poker community.
Andre was creating Flash animation for several corporate websites while working for a software company when he began a new project. That new project was working for a poker website. It was then that Andre was introduced to the game of poker. Andre was going to be writing an e-commerce proposal for the poker website and decided to download the software as research for his project.
After downloading the software, Andre learned that he had just found his new hobby, playing on free money tables. Andre learned as much as he could about the game of poker by reading books. He then began playing for real money on the PokerStars website.
It took some time but Andre eventually began to earn money playing online poker. Since that time Andre has been a master of online poker, making more than ninety final tables and having great success the PokerStars website, even becoming a member of the PokerStars Team.
Andre won a half of a million dollars playing in PokerStars online tournaments and decided to try live play. Andre has cashed out in several events in South America as well as other countries. In 2006 Andre saw great success at the Bellagio Cup. He won two events which earned him large cash prizes.
Andre also supports poker in other ways. He has provided commentary for televised poker shows on the ESPN Brazil station making a big impact in the Latin American community. When he’s not playing poker Andre can be found spending time with his family and playing soccer with his friends.
