Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson - Poker Book Review
As if the original Super System by Doyle Brunson wasn’t enough he has also put out a sequel to the book with Super System 2. Doyle Brunson is one of the most widely known names in poker. He has won 10 World Series of Poker bracelets in his time and currently has his own poker room. Doyle Brunson’s Super System 2 is a great piece of poker literature to help players get into the mind of a poker God.
The book is a bit outdated, but still offers a lot to the reader. The book goes on about different poker games and the proper strategies to use for these. The book is divided into sections about the different games with the different sections also divided into different streets. Many other great poker players helped Brunson create this compilation of information and have done a great job doing so.
Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson is a great book for any player who would like some insight on multiple poker games before they really dive into one specific area. The book goes into some detail about most of the popular poker games out today. None of these goes into a great amount of detail about the specific game, but each section does a great job of giving introductory strategy.
When I say that the strategy in the book is a bit outdated I am referencing the no limit hold’em section of the book. Brunson portraits no limit hold’em players as though they are scared of the all-in move which isn’t so much the case anymore. Since there are now a lot of smaller stakes no limit hold’em games this doesn’t apply as well because players now only really play the stakes that they are comfortable with losing a buy-in at. The information is still very applicable as long as you know that you need to tone down the aggression since poker is now an almost entirely different game since the scene has become more popular.
Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson does a great job of not boring the reader by constant pages of pure text. There are charts and graphs along with pictures throughout the text that give the reader breaks from just reading the book in one straight nonstop shot. Brunson did a great job by doing this because he sets up the breaks in reading just perfect so that the information really sinks in and the player not only learns the information, but is also able to retain the information that they have learned.
If you are an average to advanced player then I would highly recommend Super System 2 as a follow up to the first Super System. The book is an easy read and should be in the collection of every fan of poker. Read Doyle Brunson’s Super System 2 today and gain an extra edge on your opponents.
