"You have no idea; I can taste it now," Phil Ivey told the Associated Press. "I'm here and today was a very tough day for me. I lost a lot of tough hands early, and I grinded back—now I'm right in the hunt."
Poker’s favorite professional player, and quite possibly the best player to ever play the game, has made his way to the Main Event’s Day 9 to take place in November, and this guy has earned it. "You have no idea how bad I want this," Ivey said, who is the only player
who actually wants to go ahead and finish the thing already. Speaking of the last day in the preliminaries, Ivey said, "Today was a bad day, but I made it. I would say the wait is a drawback because I'm kind of in a groove playing with all of these guys.
I'm going to forget some of the things I saw from them and will have to replay some of the hands in my mind. I would love to play through right now."
He also said he’s planning on changing his cell phone number, as he’s no newbie to attention from the media being a 7-time bracelet winner, which is enough to intimidate even the toughest of the competition. Two of those bracelets were won this year.
Although he’s short-stacked amongst the majority of the nine with the 7th largest chip stack, he’s already planning his strategy for the big event. "I may watch a few of the hands on TV and actually watch poker on TV," he explained. "I'm a little short, and I don't want to get in to exactly what I'm going to do, but I have some plans."
Ivey is definitely a favorite among the poker community, as his name and face have been plastered all over Full Tilt Poker and many other poker-affiliated websites and blogs for years now. He may just be the most well-known poker pro of this generation of poker players and maybe 2009 will be his year to win the biggest poker title in the world.
