2009 WSOP November Nine

This year, the November Nine who are scheduled to face off in the 2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table are as colorful as ever. With a total $27 million prize pool at stake, these nine poker players each have their work cut out for them, as each has just as much chance of winning as any other, except perhaps the golden boy of poker, Phil Ivey. Ivey is 7th-stacked in chips, but holds an obvious edge over all his opponents, if for nothing else but his name.

In seat order in terms of chip lead, in the first seat is Darvin Moon, logger, with 58,930,000 chips; Eric Buchman, professional poker player, 34,800,000 chips; Steven Begleiter, investment banker, 29,885,000; Jeff Shulman, editor of CardPlayer Magazine and professional poker player , 19,580,000; Joseph Cada, professional poker player, 13,215,000; Kevin Schaffel, semi-retired businessman/semi-professional poker player, 12,390,000; Phil Ivey, professional poker player, 9,765,000; Antoine Saout, professional poker player, 9,500,000; and James Akenhead, professional poker player, 6,800,000 chips.

Within this array of players are only two European players (Saout from France and Akenhead from UK), quite a bit of professional players, and a couple of social players who, up until July, just played for fun. The nine range from rich to barely making it and are aged from 21 to 51. There’s also one player who is ready to bring the drama, so this ought to be an interesting tournament.

The final table will play out on November 7-10, 2009 at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada where the nine players will compete for their share of $27 million in cash payouts. Play will pursue until two players remain. The final two players will face off on November 10th, and the event will air on ESPN on November 11th.

Other WSOP coverage on ESPN will include the WSOP Champions Cup Invitational to air August 4th from 8:00-10:00 p.m., the Ante Up for Africa Celebrity Charity tournament to be aired on August 11th from 8:00-10:00 p.m., WSOP Main Event Episodes 7-18 on August 18th - September 29th from 8:00-10:00 p.m., WSOP Main Event Episodes 19-21 on September 29th from 8:00-10:00 p.m., WSOP Main Event Episode 22 on October 6th from 10:00-11:00 p.m., and WSOP Main Event episodes 23-30 on October 13th – November 3rd from 9:00-11:00 p.m.
