Daniel Negreanu is by far one of the leading poker players in the industry today. Negreanu has a great reputation to back him and also loads of money that he has won while venturing into poker as he has been. Power Hold’em Strategy by Daniel Negreanu is a great book for any player who is looking to better their Texas hold’em skill and is an easy read.
Each section of the literature is written partially by separate authors that have helped Negreanu make sure that everything he goes over in his text is written as a whole without leaving any leaks in the information. By doing this there are multiple other professional players who have collaborated to put together this extensive collection of hold’em poker tips for readers of any caliber to enjoy. The book goes over small ball poker, tournament play for beginners, online poker playing tips, high level cash game tips, short-handed tips and more.
The book is a great collaboration of some of the poker greats. There are a lot of great things that the book has to offer, yet each section is rather short which makes it lacking the depth that some other books offer. Since there are different authors to the book you are able to see the thought process of top level pro poker players, but each pros section is rather short.
Each portion of the book goes over different general ideas, but doesn’t pay too much focus to any one area at all. This makes for an overall lacking book on any specific topic, but gives the reader plenty of general intelligence in the different fields. The small ball section by Daniel Negreanu is the lengthiest of the sections and goes into some detail, but even so is still slightly lacking.
Power Hold’em Strategy by Daniel Negreanu is a decent book overall, but was put together in an average quality. The book tries to layout the same way as Doyle Brunson’s Super System series, but doesn’t do as great of a job. Others have described what Negreanu has done with this book as “shotgunning” it. Instead of making the book a great piece about one specific topic Negreanu has created a book that is generally speaking mediocre at most about a number of topics.
If you are looking for a general read about a variety of different aspects then Power Hold’em Strategy by Daniel Negreanu will be a great read for you. If you want something that goes into great detail about a specific topic then you are best off to find another piece of literature. Overall I would recommend Power Hold’em Strategy to players who are still relatively new to poker, but if you are already experienced in the game then you should invest your time reading elsewhere.
