2010 sees the World Series of Poker’s very first Poker Players’ Championship event and awards the bracelet to Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. This is the first bracelet for Mizrachi, who otherwise has won every honor but a WSOP bracelet until now. Throughout the last six years, he’s profited almost $9 million in tourney winnings and has been one of the most successful players.
Mizrachi said of the Poker Players’ Championship event, “If I was going to win a gold bracelet, I definitely wanted to win this event.”
This event was the highest buy-in event of the 2010 series and paid Mizrachi more than $1.5 million, but it was so much more than the money and the bracelet for Mizrachi. Upon making it to the final table, Mizrachi had to battle it out between his brother, Robert Mizrachi, who saw the final table, as well.
Robert finished in 5th place. “There’s no competition between us. We root for each other all the time,” said Michael, who knocked his brother out. “At least I put his chips to good use,” added Michael.
This event actually made WSOP history, marking the highest finish by two family members. The Grinder was also awarded the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. “To win Chip Reese’s Trophy is really special to me. I hope to be able to honor him in the way he deserves,” he said.
The 29-year-old Florida native, husband, and father of three has been playing full-time poker since 2004, back when he was in college studying to be a doctor. Looks like he made the right career choice when he changed to full-time poker player. Suffering from a series of financial blows over the last year, Mizrachi has made a comeback and can no longer be considered as one of the best poker players to never win a WSOP… “Well, take me off the list, then,” he says.
