In honor of Phil Laak’s recent ATV accident earlier this month, unabomberpoker.com, owned by Phil “the unabomber” Laak, has launched a promotion. In hopes to rally Laak’s recuperation, the online poker site will host the Unabomber Bounty Freeroll. The prize for wiping out Laak is a Unabomber Hoodie, autographed of course by Laak, himself.
This freeroll is open to all Unabomber Poker players and is completely free. It will run on August 31st at 8:00 p.m. EST, though the hoodie may be late, as Laak only broke seven bones in the arm he writes with. He will still apparently be able to use his mouse to play online poker.
Laak says, “I easily could have lost my eye or had soup for brains. I got lucky, and only have seven broken bones in my arm and 34 stitches around my eye. With Nurse Jennifer taking care of me well, I now have plenty of time for online poker. While I am definitely battered and bruised physically, my brain is razor sharp. Just try and take me down on August 31st.”
Not only will Laak’s bounty bring a sweet prize, but the top seven places will earn some bonus Gold Chip loyalty rewards ranging from 75 to 300 Gold Chips, which can be used to buy into tourneys, purchase merchandise, or be reverted back into cash.
Laak is likely lucky to be alive, as the accident was pretty intense. Fellow poker player, Antonio Esfandiari, was with Laak on a camping trip in Oregon where he sustained his injuries. Esfandiari described the incident: “We were following Dave and Tony on the ATVs and we were keeping up very well. We went over a sand dune, but there was a drop hidden behind it. It could have happened to either of us, honestly. Phil tried to jump off in mid-air, but he ended up landing on his bike. His elbow is broken and his wrist is all jacked up. His eye is also really messed up. Had it been one millimeter off, he’d probably be blind.”
You can register for the tournament beginning August 31st at 7:00 p.m. EST, one hour before it starts.
