The 2011 World Series of Poker begins tomorrow, May 31st, and runs through Tuesday, July 19th. As usual, the series will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino located on West Flamingo Road in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. The WSOP will kick off at noon on Tuesday with the 2-day Casino Employees No-Limit Hold ’em Event #1, but the party really starts around 5:00 when Event #2 starts up, the 4-day Heads Up No-Limit Hold ‘em Championship with a maximum player field of 256. Despite some people’s negativity regarding the suspected turn out since the events of last month that turned US poker upside down, WSOP officials believe it will be just as populated as usual.
The 42nd installment of the annual and biggest live poker tournament in the world will give away a total of 58 bracelets with buy-ins ranging from $500 to $50,000. The series has come very far since it first started in 1970 when it consisted of a playing field of just 6 guys. Now it’s more than 70,000 players made up of men and women competing for their share of the $180,000,000 in prize money. Three hundred and eighty poker tables have been set up across 100,000 square feet in the ballroom at the Rio. Tomorrow, poker players from 115 different countries will begin their dream at the WSOP.
In addition to the main tournaments, 24-hour cash games and daily single-table and mega-satellite tourneys will run, as well as three No Limit Hold ‘em tournaments each day with buy-ins as small as $135.
The Main Event will start up on July 7th. You can pre register online two weeks before any event or register in person the day of the event. The cashier’s cage is already open and will remain open 24/7 throughout the series. If you just want to watch from the sidelines, entry to all events is free.
