“Playing online helped me learn how to play against passive and aggressive players. I adjust to many styles of play, so it makes it harder to play against me.”
With 23 prior WSOP cashes that total more than $2 million of his $8.6 million live tournament purse, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi arguably has the most experience of all the 2010 November Nine players. He scored his first WSOP bracelet this year, taking the $50K Players Championship title. He isn’t called “The Grinder” for his aggressive playing style, but rather for his ability to slow play the game, gradually building up his chip stack.
Mizrachi was born in North Miami Beach, Florida in 1981. He wanted to be a doctor when he grew up, but college was soon thrown under the bus for poker at the age of 25, which luckily turned out to be the right career decision for Mizrachi. After moving into the tournament circuit after a start in online poker, he was an instant success.
Right off the bat, he cashed multiple times at the WSOP, won two WPT titles that included the 2006 Borgata Winter Poker Open, and that same year, won Card Player’s Player of the Year award. He continued barreling through the poker scene until he was stopped in his tracks by a breaking news story that reported he was overdue in his taxes. This didn’t hold him back though; he went on to have one of the best WSOPs in recent history of the series.
What you may not know about Mizrachi is that he has a twin brother, Eric, and another brother, Robert, both of whom are also successful poker players. His wife even plays, Aidily “Miss Grinder” Mizrachi, who was featured on WPT Ladies Night. In fact, he used to travel the tournament circuit in a tour bus with his family!
There’s no doubt about it—Mizrachi has what it takes to win this year’s WSOP Main Event despite his 7th place position with about 14 million in chips.
